A Sincere Compliment! This is a fantastic concept. Imagine if every school had an organization like this one.
Saturday was Ko Kung Fu’s Winter Friendship Tournament! Thank you to KO for putting on another fantastic event! And a special thanks to everyone from East West that went down to support them. Ms. Ellett and Mrs. Stein judged all day and Mrs. Topacio-Call, Mr. Goodson, Ms. Goodson, Ms. Fitzsimmons, Ms. Stein, Mr. Nguyen and Ms. Meyerdirk all did a fantastic job competing! We really appreciate your support of our Bok Fu Do brothers and sisters at KO! Here are some pictures from the day…
This kid is fantastic! “I want to be on the road to AWESOME!”
Check back in tomorrow for pictures and video from our Kid Special Squad recital that took place on Friday!
The black belt women had our annual (post) holiday brunch at Chow in Danville on Sunday. It’s a fun tradition that gets us all together and we all look forward to it each year. This year we had 2 new additions! We are always excited to see to our group grow and we can’t wait to see who’ll be joining us next year!

What Do You Want to Learn in 2013?
Love this kid! Can you imagine if more people in the world had this attitude?
It has been another incredible year at East West! Every year I always wonder how in the world we are going to top the previous year, but somehow we always seem to do it. This year was no exception! Between all of our great events during the year, lots of new staff members, winning the nationals for a 12th year in a row, taking gold in Malaysia at the world tournament and bringing by far our largest team ever, and 3 new and fantastic black belt women, I can’t imagine how much more we could have packed into 365 days! Thank you to everyone that was a part of our success this year and grew with us in 2012. We can’t wait to see the progress from all of our students in the upcoming year and continuing our amazing traditions of Bok Fu Do! Enjoy your new year celebrations and we can’t wait to see you back on the mat in 2013!
2012 End of the Year Slideshow from East West Kung Fu on Vimeo.
Our 12 Days of Bok Fu Spirit has come to a close. Thank you to everyone that participated, whether you posted your acts or not. Hopefully our group made a positive impact on the lives of those around us over the last 12 days. I know that I personally got much more back than I gave! For my final act of kindness, I decided it would be towards myself. Many times we spend so much time trying to take care of others that we forget to be kind to ourselves. I spent 1 hour alone, with a notebook and pen, and took the time to write down all of the wonderful things that happened in my life in 2012. Rather than focusing on where I want to be and what I want to accomplish on 2013 (although I have done that over the past couple weeks), I made time to look back and remember all that I accomplished in the previous year. It was definitely time well spent and I was thankful that I took the time to be kind to myself in our final day of the year!
Have a very SAFE and HAPPY NEW YEAR celebration!
Very short post today, but don’t worry… there’s a great one coming for our final day of 2013 and our final Day of our 12 Days of Bok Fu Spirit! Check back mid day tomorrow for a video of all of our highlights at East West from 2012…and trust me, there’s a lot of highlights!
On Saturday, I had borrowed a car form a friend for a few days while I was car-less and they were out of town. Rather than returning it with just a full tank of gas, I took the time to have it washed and cleaned before I brought it back to them. Their act of kindness in letting me borrow the car made me want to make sure that repaid that act by returning the car to them in better condition than they left it!
Last act of kindness is tomorrow! Make it a good one!
There’s so many of these kinds of articles out there right now, but I thought that this one had some really good things to chew on!
Get a Jump Start to January: 10 Steps To Your Best Year Yet

On Thursday, I was standing in line and decided to strike up a conversation with a guy that didn’t seem to be in the best mood. Initially he was a little surprised that I started talking to him out of the blue, but then he seemed to cheer up and kept the conversation going. It was a great way for both of us to pass time while we were waiting in line and he may even bring his son in for some kung fu lessons:)
Have you started working on your goals for 2013 yet? If not, now is the time! Don’t wait, set aside some time today to really think about what you want to accomplish in the new year. Let’s make 2013 the best year yet!
